DECISION & ORDER ON APPLICATION
FOR REINSTATEMENT

Application by R. Rodney Washington for reinstatement to the Bar as an attorney and counselor-at-law. Mr. Washington was admitted to the Bar at a term of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court in the Second Judicial Department on April 12, 1989. By decision and order on motion of this Court dated January 9, 1995, as amended January 18, 1995, inter alia, the Grievance Committee for the Second, Eleventh, and Thirteenth Judicial Districts was authorized to institute and prosecute a disciplinary proceeding against Mr. Washington, and the issues raised were referred to the Honorable Anthony P. Savarese, as Special Referee, to hear and report. By opinion and order of this Court dated December 23, 1996, Mr. Washington was suspended from the practice of law for a period of one year, commencing January 23, 1997. By decision and order on application of this Court dated February 24, 1998, Mr. Washington's application for reinstatement was held in abeyance and the matter was referred to the Committee on Character and Fitness to investigate and report on his current fitness to practice law.

Upon the papers filed in support of the application and the papers filed in relation thereto, and upon the report of the Committee on Character and Fitness and the exhibits annexed thereto, it is

ORDERED that the application is denied.

We find that R. Rodney Washington does not demonstrate the requisite fitness and character to practice law.
