About Us

The Guardian Assistance Network (GAN)

The Guardian Assistance Network (GAN) is a spin-off of the Vera Institute of Justice, Inc., and was started in April 2005 to provide free help to family guardians who have been appointed in Kings County (Brooklyn) under Article 81 of the New York State Mental Hygiene Law.  In 2006, the Unified Court System, through the Office of Court Administration, received funding from the State Justice Institute to expand the program to what it is today.

GAN has developed a training manual and offers bi-monthly training that satisfies the court ordered training requirements.

GAN staff also works individually with lay guardians helping them to comply with mandated reports and requirements.  GAN provides support and resource assistance; however, it does not offer legal services.

GAN offers specialized training and workshops periodically. Please contact GAN for current opportunities
