The NYS Courts Access to Justice Program partnered with the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG), a not-for-profit legal services provider, to operate the first Mobile Legal Help Center in New York State. The Mobile Legal Help Center (MLHC) was financed by NYLAG via a grant through the David Berg Initiative, and is owned and operated by NYLAG. The Mobile Center is a 35-foot custom-built command center type vehicle and is staffed by attorneys from the NYS Courts Access to Justice Program Volunteer Lawyer Programs, recent law school graduates, and NYLAG staff attorneys. It was established to bring the services of court-based Help Centers into the community by providing similar informational assistance, educational materials, and referrals to nonprofit agencies and organizations which are currently provided in existing court-based Help Centers.
