Overview

As of January 1,1996, there are no exemptions from jury service. The Jury Division is located at: 360 Adams Street, Room 156, in the Supreme Court Building, in Brooklyn, NY. We are open Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m to 5:00 p.m.

How to Apply for a Postponement or Excusal

If you have had no prior postponements, and would like to automatically file for your first postponement now, you can apply by phone at 1-800-449-2819 or on the web at www.nyjuror.gov.

All applications for postponements must be submitted prior to the date of jury service. 

If you are requesting to be excused from jury service due to a language problem, you must appear in person on the date and time you are summoned. Further instructions will be given to you at the location where you are summoned.

Medical Conditions and Disability Accommodations

If you have a medical condition that prevents you from serving as a juror, please call 347-404-9904. You may download the form for your doctor to complete and then return to us.

Caregiver of a Child or an Elderly Person

If you are the main caregiver of your child, or children under 14 years of age or a family member older than 14, you may request a postponement by returning your completed questionnaire or summons, along with a copy of the birth certificate of your youngest child, or a doctor's note stating the condition of the person being cared for and that you are the main caregiver of that person.

Unfortunately, if your summons or questionnaire is not filled out completely, it might not be possible to consider your application, and it may be returned to you.

Payment for Jury Service

Jurors who are paid their salary during their entire jury service, will not be paid a jury fee by the state. 

All companies with more than 10 employees must pay a stipend of at least $40 per day for the first three days of jury service if the service was prior to June 9, 2025. Service dates of June 9 and thereafter are $72.00 per day.

Jurors employed by companies with more than 10 employees who are not paid for jury service after the third day, will be paid by the state at the rate of $40 per day for each day they are not reimbursed for dates of service prior to June 9, 2025. Service dates of June 9 and thereafter are $72.00 per day.

Jurors employed by companies with 10 employees or less and are not paid for jury service, will be paid $40 a day for every day of service prior to June 9, 2025. Service dates of June 9 and thereafter are $72.00 per day.
Jurors are not paid by the state for their daily transportation costs.

All checks, if any, for jury service, will be mailed to you by the office of the state treasurer approximately  six weeks after completion of your service.

Please appear in person to respond to any letter you receive that states "Personal Appearance Required."

Currently Serving as a Juror and Unable to Attend Jury Duty

All sworn grand jurors, who are unable to attend must contact the Wardens at 347-296-1863.

If you have not yet been selected to serve, or if you have not been sworn by the clerk in the courtroom, please call the number below for the building you are serving in. (please do not email us if you are serving as a juror)
