Associate Justice Julio Rodriguez III


Justice Julio Rodriguez III was appointed to the Appellate Division, First Department, in May 2021. Prior to his appointment to the Appellate Division, Justice Rodriguez served as Administrative Judge for Criminal Matters in the Twelfth Judicial District (Bronx County) from February 2020 to May 2021. In addition, Justice Rodriguez sat in Supreme Court, Civil Term in New York County in 2019 after his election in 2018 to Supreme Court, Bronx County.

Justice Rodriguez began his judicial career in 2013 when he was appointed to the New York City Criminal Court. Prior to his election to Supreme Court in 2018, Justice Rodriguez was designated an acting Supreme Court Justice in 2017, also serving as Deputy Supervising Judge for New York City Criminal Court, Bronx County.

Before joining the bench, Justice Rodriguez was Deputy Commissioner and Executive Director of the Environmental Control Board for the New York City Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings. Previously, he was a New York City Administrative Law Judge and before that served as Inspector General for the New York City Department of Investigation.

Justice Rodriguez began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in New York County, after earning his B.A. from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and his J.D. from Temple University School of Law.

Justice Rodriguez was born and raised in New York City, is a product of New York City public schools, and is a lifelong public servant. Justice Rodriguez has also taught as an adjunct professor at Hostos Community College of the City University of New York and Monroe College.
