Sheila Schwallie-Spoth has been appointed to serve as a Deputy Clerk of the Appellate Division, Fourth Department, effective July 16, 2026. Ms. Schwallie-Spoth graduated with honors from Syracuse University School of Law in 2006. Upon graduation, she joined the Appellate Division as an Appellate Court Attorney and worked in the Court’s Legal Research Department for three years before moving to the Court’s Decisions Department. Ms. Schwallie-Spoth served as Supervisor of the Court’s Decisions Department for seven years before being appointed as Deputy Clerk. In addition to earning her law degree from Syracuse University, Ms. Schwallie-Spoth also earned a master of science degree in Cultural Foundations of Education. Prior to that, she earned her bachelor of arts degree in political science from SUNY University at Buffalo. Ms. Schwallie-Spoth began volunteering as a youth mentor for Compeer Rochester in 2006, serving as a mentor to youth in the Rochester area growing up with incarcerated parents, and youth living with mental health challenges. She has also served as the Vice President of a PTA in the Fairport school district and as a Girl Scout leader for the Girl Scouts of Western New York. Born and raised in Rochester, Ms. Schwallie-Spoth currently resides in Fairport with her family.
