A Valuable Resource

Lexis, Westlaw and HeinOnline are available for use to anyone free of charge. Our collection of over 300,000 volumes is also accessible to anyone visiting the library.

Services

The Appellate Division Law Library provides a number of services designed to comprehensively support your legal research needs:

Reference Services / Help accessing the collection

The library is open to the public, and in-house use of library materials and resources are available to all visitors to our facility. Law librarians cannot provide legal advice, but are able to provide assistance with accessing materials in our collection and using library technology. The library welcomes reference questions in-person, via phone at (585)530-3251, and via email through our Ask-A-Librarian service.

Borrowing

Members of the New York State bench and bar may apply for a library card. Cardholders may borrow nearly all items in the library's collection for up to four weeks at a time. Registration for library cards must be done on site in order to validate the applicant's identity and status in the NYS Attorney Registration database.

For more detailed information regarding library cards, overdure fines, renewals and other details please see our Circulation / Borrower Services page.

Document Delivery

Our Document Delivery service seeks to provide you with the library materials and court records you need, regardless of your location. Most materials in the library's collection are available for delivery, including records & briefs, bill jackets and legislative documents. To get started, visit our Document Delivery page.

Public Computers and Internet Access

The library provides Internet access throughout the facility via a wireless network. Public computer terminals are equipped with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.) and legal databases including Westlaw, Lexis, and HeinOnline. Reference librarians are available to assist users with any of these resources.

Tours

We're happy to provide tours to groups wishing to learn more about the library. For more information or to schedule a tour, contact Andrew Kloc at akloc@nycourts.gov.
