New York State Resources

As the largest court library in New York State, we own a large collection of NYS-based materials. Our holdings of primary law, such as statutes, codes, and case reporters are comprehensive. We have case reporters and session laws dating to New York's colonial period through the present day.

We also own a massive collection of New York State secondary law materials (treatises). Whether you are an attorney with a case outside of your normal practice area, or are an individual trying to conduct your own legal work, our collection of New York State legal materials can help you gain the legal knowledge you are seeking.

We also own the region's premiere collection of NYS legislative and regulatory history. For researchers attempting to determine the original intent of legislation, or how a law has changed over time, our collection is unsurpassed. We own all existing NYS bill jackets and other intent-yielding resources like the Legislative Documents series and Legislative Annual. We also own a full run of New York Codes, Rules and Regulations replaced pages, meaning a researcher can trace regulations' history back to 1945, when the "NYCRR" was first promulgated.

Our collection also includes records-on-appeal and appellate briefs for all four NYS Appellate Divisions and the Court of Appeals.

If you are interested in accessing any of the materials described above, stop in, contact the Reference Desk by phone at 585-530-3251, or via email at We are often able to deliver the materials sought via email, if possible. You may also search our catalog.
