Brookhaven Town Code Cases
Prosecution Brookhaven Town Code offenses are prosecuted by the Brookhaven Town Attorney. The Town Attorney appears in court on Thursdays.
Pre‑Arraignment Conferences Pre‑arraignment conferences are held in a hearing room. Defendants or their attorneys meet with the prosecuting Town Attorneys before appearing in the Main Courtroom with the District Court Judge.
If you conference with the Town Attorney but do not appear before the Judge, you may be subject to a warrant or a default.
Court Access and Sign‑In
The Courthouse opens at 9:15 AM.
Town Attorneys conferences cases in the order of their sign‑in sheet. Sign in upon arrival so you are called in the correct order.
Paying your fine

Pleading guilty by mail
The Court will usually accept a guilty plea by mail and impose sentence for certain Town Code offenses:

To plead guilty by mail
- Complete and sign the back of the ticket, with a
- money order for the fine (payable to the clerk of the court)
- Include a stamped, self-addressed envelope for your receipt.
Mail your guilty plea and payment about 2 weeks before your court date. The courthouse mailing address is 150 West Main Street, Patchogue NY 11772. No personal checks.
