Overview

Welcome to NY‑VCAP, the New York Virtual Court Appearance Platform. This browser-based platform is designed to let people attend court hearings online without entering the courthouse.  This is not Microsoft TEAMS, and you should get familiar with the environment prior to your first virtual appearance.

If the courtroom you are attending uses NY‑VCAP, you will get email calendar invitations for your virtual appearance from [email protected]. You or your employer may need to mark this email address as a safe sender so you can receive the messages. Be sure to also check your junk or spam folder in case the emails are filtered there.

Information for attorneys, guest participants, and anyone who is not a UCS staff member or a New York State registered attorney is provided below.

General Information

NY-VCAP is a browser-based platform that works on desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones.  You may also be invited to participate by telephone if needed; please notify the court of this in advance.

Recommended internet browsers for using NY-VCAP are: Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and Safari.

You will need to allow camera and microphone access for NY-VCAP on your browser.  See the instructions on how to do so here: How to Enable and Change Camera & Microphone

Test your camera and microphone in the NY-VCAP Hallway, before your appearance begins, by following these instructions: How to Test Equipment

Court staff will control when you are admitted into the virtual appearance.  If there are delays, they may send alerts out to the hallway.  You will know if the court has started an appearance; see information as to how here: How to Know Appearance has Started in NY-VCAP

The court will be alerted that you are waiting in the hallway, so please allow them time to admit you into the virtual appearance.
