Overview

NYS Court Security officers provide a safe, orderly environment in courthouses across the state. Through vigilant screening, steady patrols, and professional presence, they protect the public, court staff, and the integrity of judicial proceedings every day.

Courthouse Visitor Screening

All visitors to the Courts will be required to pass through a scanning device called a magnetometer. Personal belongings will be sent through an x-ray machine. Any person entering the building is subject to search. Any person who will not consent to being searched will not be allowed into the building and will be directed to the exit. All weapons and dangerous instruments must be surrendered. All packages, purses, briefcases and other containers are subject to search. Different counties may have additional security procedures. These procedures are necessary to protect the safety of all people in the Courts.

Anyone with a health condition who might be affected by such scanning should advise the officer at the magnetometer.

The patch worn by New York State Court Officers is officially called the New York State Unified Court System shoulder patch (often shortened to NYS Courts patch).
