The Presiding Justices of the four Departments of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of the State of New York issued a Joint Statement dated December 1, 2020, announcing the removal of the question regarding United States citizenship and immigration status from the Application for Admission to the Bar of the State of New York. This decision, made by the Appellate Division pursuant to Judiciary Law 90(1), was reached after detailed analysis by the four Departments and the Office of Court Administration’s Counsel’s Office. The new bar application will be available on the website of the New York State Board of Law Examiners on December 31, 2020, the date on which the questionnaire revision becomes effective.
