Home Chief Clerk and Legal Counsel to the Court
Lisa LeCours - Clerk of the Court Lisa LeCours was appointed Chief Clerk and Legal Counsel to the New York Court of Appeals on May 2, 2022. In that position, she oversees the daily operation of the Court and its staff. A career public servant, she previously served as Executive Assistant to Chief Judge Janet DiFiore from August 2017 to May 2022. Prior to taking that position, she was the Assistant Consultation Clerk at the Court of Appeals from 2014 to 2017, following fourteen years as Senior Principal Law Clerk to the Hon. Victoria A. Graffeo, an Associate Judge of that Court. Lisa began her legal career in 1993 as an Appellate Court Attorney at the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Fourth Department. In 1995, she joined the Appeals and Opinions Bureau of the New York Attorney General’s Office where she represented the Governor and more than thirty state agencies in all aspects of appellate litigation in the state and federal courts. She subsequently was employed as Associate Counsel with The Moreland Act Commission on New York City Schools and left that post to become Principal Law Clerk to Judge Graffeo, who was then an Associate Justice of the Appellate Division, Third Department.

Admitted to practice law in 1994, Lisa received her B.A. from the University at Albany, State University of New York, in 1990 and her J.D. from Albany Law School in 1993. She resides with her husband and three children in Glenmont, New York

Special mention should be made of the Court of Appeals Staff, who provide excellent support to the Court. They, along with the Judges' personal law clerks and secretaries, keep New York State's highest tribunal functioning twelve months a year.
