The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court is New York's intermediate appellate court. It includes four geographical departments. The Third Department consists of 28 counties and the Court is centrally located in Albany, New York. Some of the Court's auxiliary offices are located outside the Capital region. The Court hears appeals from trial courts from throughout the department, including Supreme Court, County Court, the Court of Claims, Surrogate's Court and Family Court. The Third Department also oversees the following auxiliary agencies: Mental Hygiene Legal Service, Office of Attorney for Children, Office of the Legal Profession, Attorney Grievance Committee and Civil Appeals Settlement Program.
