Overview

Lewis County Surrogate Court estate files are available on site for research purposes. Records are available for public inspection on terminals located in the Public Research Room on the 2nd floor of the Lewis County Courthouse.

Many records are also available online and can be viewed from your home computer. In order to access these records, a password must be obtained by registering at http://www.nycourts.gov/courts/5jd/onondaga/surrogate/onbase.shtml

As of February 19, 2014, a new section 207.64 of the Uniform Civil Rules of the Surrogate’s Court, relating to public access to certain filings was adopted whereby certain documents may be viewed only by persons interested in the estate of the decedent, as defined by SCPA 103(39), or their counsel; the Public Administrator or counsel thereto; counsel for any Federal, State or local governmental agency; or court personnel; except upon written permission of the Surrogate or Chief Clerk of the Court, which shall not be reasonably withheld.
