To better assist with email requests, please include the full case caption, Index number, document number(s) and a brief description of the question or concern.
Commencement of Actions/ Indexing
Index numbers are assigned in the order in which they are received. If you require the Index number to be expedited, please refer to the New York County E-Filing Protocol, section (B)(4) or appear in person in Room 141B of 60 Centre Street and ask to speak with an e-filing clerk.
If you are seeking to commence an e-filed action under seal and/or with anonymous caption, please contact the Ex Parte Office of the Supreme Court, New York County at 60 Centre Street, Room 315 or at 646-386-3125 for further assistance. You may also refer to the New York County E-filing protocol Sections B (2) & K (3)(a).
In Person Filing
For those who have opted out of using NYSCEF or the self-represented, Commencing Documents, Answers, Affirmations or Affidavits of Service, Notice of Appeals and Notice of Entries can be submitted in person in Room 141B of 60 Centre Street. A completed, Affirmation or notarized Affidavit of Service must accompany your documents for filing pursuant to Court Rules NYCRR 202.5- B(b)(2)(i).
Special Exhibits
The New York County Clerk’s Office does not retain any hard copy exhibits i.e., flash or thumb drives, CD’s. For New York County’s procedure, please refer to the New York County E-filing protocol, Section B (9).
Courtesy Copies/ Hard Copies
The New York County Clerk’s Office does not accept nor require courtesy or hard copies. To serve notice on the County Clerk, please refer to the New York County E-filing Protocol (B)(7)(b) or (J)(1).
Deletion/ Removal of Documents
The New York County Clerk’s Office does not delete or remove documents to preserve the continuity of the record. The only exceptions are as follows:
- Document(s)/case(s) filed into the wrong county
- Document(s) filed under the wrong index number
- Document(s) filed using the wrong document type that has an associated filing fee
